The matrix / keyboard / battery replacement

The matrix is perhaps the most fragile part of the laptop. Due to its low mechanical strength and a thickness of only 1-2 millimeters, very often laptops with mechanical damage to the matrix due to accidental bumps, falls, strong finger pressure, as well as traces of improper operation of the laptop when the user opens the lid for one from the corners, which leads to excessive deformation of the matrix along the diagonal. In such situations, it is necessary to conduct a number of special tests, and if at least one of them has image defects, then the matrix is replaced. The cost of replacing a laptop matrix varies depending on the class of the device and the price of the matrix itself, depending on the diagonal, resolution, display manufacturing technology (TN + Film, IPS or VA), reflective properties of the screen surface (matte or glossy), as well as the presence of a touch layer.

Replacing the matrix on a laptop is necessary when:

  • No image on the screen when turned on;
  • Visible "highlighted" and dark places on the screen of the device;
  • Spots or streaks appear;
  • The image on the display flickers.

But there are times when the above problems can also be associated with other breakdowns (for example, a frayed matrix cable or a faulty video card), in which case the cause of the malfunction can only be determined after the laptop is diagnosed in a service center.

The second most popular failure is the keyboard, which often suffers during everyday use of a laptop at home - it is not uncommon for the laptop keyboard to be flooded with liquid (tea, coffee or beer) and mechanical damage from strong “clattering” (the scissor suspension mechanism breaks and the keys are fixed in the pressed position), as well as breaking keys.

Signs You Need a Laptop Keyboard Replacement:

  • The keyboard does not work at all;
  • Some keys don't work;
  • Keys are stuck.

The cost of replacing a keyboard depends on how the keyboard is attached and whether the keys are backlit. When attaching the keyboard to the top of the case from the inside on meltable plastic cylindrical pins, partial disassembly of the laptop is required and, in this case, replacing the laptop keyboard takes much longer.

The next most popular malfunction is the failure of a laptop battery, which is a separate hardware and software system with several degrees of protection required to ensure the safe use of lithium batteries, known in addition to their excellent ability to accumulate a significant charge in a small volume, the ability to ignite if they are incorrectly exploitation and even explosion.

Laptop battery replacement is required:

When the battery has expired. Each battery, depending on its chemical composition, withstands a certain number of charge-discharge cycles, for lithium batteries, most commonly used in laptops, this figure is approximately 1000;

The battery has overheated (the laptop was lying in the open sun, for example). Remember that the laptop battery does not like heating above 70 degrees Celsius, this can both reduce its resource and lead to battery blocking by the controller, which provides protection and control of the parameters of lithium cells;

Incorrect voltage supply to the battery. This can happen when the battery controller or charge controller on the motherboard fails. In turn, the failure of the controllers occurs, in most cases, due to an incorrectly selected "non-native" power supply or the battery itself, as well as a breakdown of the power supply.

Рис. 1: The left battery cell of the laptop is swollen. The battery must be replaced entirely.

Lithium laptop batteries can swell and, in extreme cases, even explode. If you see that the case / keyboard is deformed, the laptop is not stable on a flat surface, then these are the first signs that the laptop battery needs to be replaced urgently.

Signs you need to replace your laptop battery:

  1. The laptop does not charge, while the operating system may display a warning about the need to replace the battery;
  2. The laptop discharges very quickly (10-20 minutes) or does not hold a charge at all, working only when a charger is connected to it;
  3. An incorrectly selected battery is used, while Windows may issue a warning about the use of a non-original battery;
  4. Noticeable deformation of the removable battery or swelling of the laptop case in the area where the non-removable battery is located. In this case, replace the battery as soon as possible.
